Barley news World: Barley crop, trade forecasts increased in USDA’s April report

Global barley trade is forecast to reach 30.316 mln tonnes in 2022/23, up from the March forecast of 29.916 mln and higher than the 28.515 mln tonnes forecast for season 2021/22, USDA said in its April report.

Barley export forecast is up for Australia (8 mln tonnes vs. 7.7 mln last month) and down for Russia (5.3 mln tonnes vs. 5.5 mln).

World barley crop 2022/23 is seen at 151.624 mln tonnes this month vs. 150.477 mln forecast in March (thanks to increased forecasts for Argentina – plus 300 thousand tonnes to 4.5 mln; Australia – plus 400 thousand tonnes to 14.1 mln; and Kazakhstan – plus 587 thousand tonnes to 3.287 mln).

Total barley consumption is forecast at 152.033 mln tonnes (150.733 mln forecast last month, 148.372 mln estimated for 2021/22) and ending stocks at 17.937 mln tonnes (18.092 and 18.346 mln tonnes, respectively).
